The Model 26, at the time also called the “New Large-bore”, followed the ever-popular Model 22, Selmer-Paris’ first saxophone, after they had made enough changes and improvements to warrant calling it a new model.
The serial number we have (8788) dates this to mid 1928! Not to be confused with the Model 28 where there are a few features that don’t appear on this horn, most noticeably the front “altissimo F” that you’d be familiar with.
This particular instrument has been fully checked and serviced in our workshop prior to sale. Our experienced technicians have stripped various parts of the Sax to clean, re-lubricate and optimise the mechanism of this vintage beauty. As you would expect there are signs of aesthetic wear on an instrument of this age but most of the silver plating still looks great considering its 94-year life! But more importantly all the mechanicals, pads, corks and regulation has been taken care of in our workshop set-up. The instrument has a really authentic early jazz tone, and it would be well suited to playing in that genre.
The sax is supplied in a vintage Selmer-Bundy case, which has been designed for the doubling musician in mind and will also hold a clarinet (Metal would be a better fit) in the lid! Although it does house the sax nicely, it is well used and a lot of the padding isn’t in top condition anymore, so you may wish to consider a new case for this old horn!
