This is an early and original King Zephyr Alto Sax dating from c.1935. It's all original lacquer which has aged nicely and is worn in the usual places but by no means totally gone. This would be an excellent option for any player seeking that true vintage American sound which is near impossible to find on any modern Saxophone.
This was for many the golden period of King Saxes, during the H.N White ownership, which ended in 1965 and even before the death of H.N White himself (1940). This particular example has some of the well known features of these early models including; the beautifully simple key guards, the square angled low Eb and low C keys, and the strong socket in the neck collar.
The keywork is surprisingly nimble for a Sax of this period and the main stack key layout is perfect, everything sits nicely under the touch. The left hand low keys are also very usable with the action being quite manageable even at pace. The sound itself is pretty unique and hard to put into words, certainly unlike any modern Sax. In part this is the design, and also the brass and it's original construction and also how it has aged. It certainly has plenty of 'go' when required and its a strong, rich tone. Great fun all round and a lesser seen piece of Vintage Sax history.
