This the latest version of the YCL-650 Yamaha Clarinet originally released in the Summer of 2022. It is an excellent alternative for those who are serious about their performance but need to watch their budget. The specifications of its bell, barrel, toneholes and other features are very close to those of the top Yamaha Custom models, and its handcrafted finishing ensures top quality performance. This latest improved model also features white leather pads, a new adjustable thumbrest with a sling ring and improved ergonomic keywork.
The YCL-650 is excellent value for money, providing the player with a professional quality clarinet at a much lower price. It contains many of the features and playing characteristics of the custom series clarinets including undercut toneholes, resonance chamber in the bell and many of the benefits only seen on handcrafted instruments.
A straight cylindrical bore ensures a sweet clean sound on this classy instrument. The 650 is made from high quality selected and seasoned Grenadilla wood to ensure the finest tone colour and durability. An ideal upgrade Clarinet for someone progressing from a student model and wanting to enjoy the improvements of tone that wood offers and a long-lasting option.

I'd absolutely recommend Dawkes to anyone wanting to look at a new or secondhand instrument (brass or woodwind). I booked a session with them, they got in stock the 3 models I wanted to try, and I also managed to book in a repair / overhaul of one of my current instruments at the same time. The location is great too - really spacious, lots of rooms to practice in / try things out, and decorated in a really fun exciting way. I also felt very confident that the staff I spoke to were knowledgeable and helpful.
It has a good tone and plays easily, good value for the money.
