Already a successful model the YCL450 intermediate clarinet now has an additional option; this new 450M offers a unique technology primarily aimed at keeping maintenance low and sound quality high.
The upper joint of the instrument on the 450M is machined out slightly larger around the bore and toneholes. Thermoplastic ABS resin is then injected into the cavity mould, instantly forming the inner shape of a clarinet. This method retains as much as 90 per cent of the wooden portion of the clarinet. This ensures, under different environmental conditions, the bore of the instrument remains stable and cracking should be inhibited.
The YCL450 also benefits from an adjustable thumbrest with sling ring and the vent tube on the octave key has been modified to help improve the response in the upper registers even with low air pressure, making it easier for the younger player.
Theres no doubt the lining of the bore and toneholes will help either in more challenging climates of humidity etc, or perhaps for younger players or doublers who may not be taking quite so much care to clean through and oil a normal wooden clarinet.
In summary this new YCL450M will ultimately be judged by players in stores who are comparing it with the standard 450, which will continue to be produced as normal, and with other brand competitors.
