This is a beautiful 1949 Selmer Super Action Alto Sax which has been fully re-padded in preparation for sale. The instrument is in original condition and has naturally lost its lacquer and we think it looks stunning! Like all our pre-owned Saxophones it comes with a 6 month warranty and you can try it here in store or at home on 14 day approval.

The Super Action model from Selmer ran from 1946-1955 during which time 23,300 were made. The Super Action followed the Balanced Action which was something of an innovative design and it is really the first Selmer model to have what we would now regard as the 'modern layout' in terms of key design. The Super Action model refined this ergonomic finesse even further and the sound is absolutely beautiful, these horns (and this one in particular) really sing.

This particular example has been fully re-padded by our specialist workshop in preparation for sale. This means all the pads and felts have been replaced, and then the instrument has been fully serviced to ensure a smooth, fluid key action and a professional set-up throughout. The only ‘repair work’ that is visible is where the low C guard has been re-soldered. The Sax is supplied in a BAM shaped case which is ideal for storing it safely and daily travelling. 

There is a beautiful ability to 'sing' with this Super Action which lends itself to crafting a melody, or sitting as first Alto in a swing band. It's hard to describe but it's a clarity and precision of tone that still has sweetness yet projection. Add to that the absolute feather light action that just feels so nimble and you've got a winning combination that offers a contrasting option to the modern saxes in production.

In summary, this is a gorgeous example of this wonderful vintage model and it would suit an advanced player wanting a serious vintage bit of kit or an experienced adult who seeks that legitimate Selmer sound, look and feel. As time goes by it gets harder and harder to find excellent examples of these, but this is definitely one of those.
