MusicMedic.com shellac sticks are the finest available. Many technicians and players feel that a firm shellac which cools to a hard state improves the tone of the instrument. Music Medic offer two types of shellac for pad installation. The primary difference between the sticks is colour.
Often a more aesthetically pleasing job can be done with shellac that is the same color as the pads. In the MusicMedic.com repair shop this clear shellac is used almost exclusively.
Dawkes Music finds this shellac hold a 'plastic' state longer than natural Shellac, and does not melt to completely liquid as fast. This means less heat is required, and a more stable adjustment of the pads is possible - as the shellac does not totally liquify and move too much within the cup. It also does not burn or blacken like natural shellac. It is made of an epoxy resin that does not expand when heated, making it an extremely consistent texture. Essentially, we love it and it's now the no.1 choice of shellac in our workshop.
