The latest reed design from the leading synthetic brand Legere. This is the French Cut design for Alto Saxophone. This new model is a refined symphonic-type reed which offers a dark, rich, strong sound with plenty of stability and will feel comfortable for Alto players used to classic French Cut cane reeds.
Legere have modified the profile to ensure an even distribution of material whilst retaining a thin tip. This combination of graduated material thickness and a thin tip design ensures a quick response with just subtle resistance. The sound is rich and resonant with plenty of projection across the range of the Alto Sax.
This new French Cut reed is produced using the same advanced material and technology used in the highly regarded Signature, European and American Cut reeds. Unlike other cuts though, the French Cut intentionally suppresses high-frequency overtones, this helps deliver a richer sound with more depth which sounds great on Alto Sax.

I love these reeds as they are more consistent than cane though they haven’t lasted as long as I’d hoped. Doesn’t withstand getting carried away and playing for almost two hours non-stop! So maybe some caution needed to avoid splitting.
I made the switch from Vandoren Classic 3 to LEGERE French cut 3.25. It’s the first synthetic reed that gives me the sound I am after.. I do practise a lot and found the first reed split after less than 3 months of use. Legere recommend having more than one reed on the go and I have been told they are heat sensitive.. Tuning is excellent and the reeds are very responsive, though they need to be perfectly positioned on the mouthpiece. Low notes sound easily and have a rich sound. The sound is not identical to cane reeds, but is is a sound I like. I like the consistency reed to Reed, the fact they don’t vary so much as you play them. Cane reeds reach their sweet spot and can fail soon after. They are great if you have your instrument standing for a time between uses such as in church or a concert setting. Set-up: Yanagisawa AW01, Vandoren AP3 mouthpiece. Genre: Classical, ballads
I got this to try alongside the 3.25 - this was too hard so passed on to a friend who uses the 3.5 strength. It is capable of a beautiful sound.
Excellent reed, worked straight out of the box
These reeds are the best synthetic reeds I have tried. They respond well across the entire range of the instrument and making playing almost effortless. Cannot comment on consistency as I have only used the one to date. I have found that warming the reed in the mouth and the mouthpiece in my pocket does help reach optimal temperature more quickly. Tuning was great.
I have been using Legere synthetic reeds foe a few years they perform well and, if cared for, last a very long time. Very good value for money. The French cut reed does give a significantly darker sound than American cut.
