This is a wonderful pair of rare “LX” clarinets made by Leblanc in France in fantastic condition. They would be a superb upgrade to a first professional pair for a progressing student, or an adult player looking for a clean sounding, reliable alternative to the Buffet and Yamaha standard.
The French Leblanc factory closed in the mid 2000's after struggling financially against the tide of globalisation vs niche European manufacturing costs. The name and certain assets got gobbled up by the US Conn-Selmer company who own King, Conn, Bach etc and the Leblanc name has resurfaced in various re-incarnates since but these are originals made in France before the factory was closed.
The LX models are clean sounding with fantastic projection. The action is light and effortless and intonation is excellent throughout the range. They have a bright and pure tone, equally at home in an orchestra or wind band, or even for jazz playing.
This pair are in excellent overall condition for their age, with a bit of normal use and age related wear to the silver plating, showing surface scratching etc. The wood is in exceptional condition from top to bottom on both clarinets, the only obvious sign of age and use is where the gold colouring in the Leblanc logo has worn away on the top joint of the Bb and on the barrels.
