The new FREE-REED ligature from Lefreque has been developed with the same philosophy as their revolutionary sound bridges. This theory is that everything that is ‘clamped’ should actually be bridged somehow or freed from its clamping. In the case of the ligature this is a challenge with conventional models which generally just clamp the reed on which can restrict the resonance.
The Lefreque FREE-REED ligature is the first model that doesn't clamp the reed, and doesn't dampen the vibrations at the point it touches the reed. The ligature is also quite flexible and adjustable and thus they can cover all Clarinet/Sax applications over just x5 sizes/ This the Medium (M) model for alto sax/Bb clarinet mouthpieces (may also fit some small metal jazz tenor sax mouthpieces).
Putting on the ligature
Place the reed on the mouthpiece and hold the reed with one hand and carefully slide the ligature down over the reed and mouthpiece. Slide the metal beads down with your free hand until they sit comfortably on the heel of the reed, then ensure the back plate is slid down to a matching position on the back of the mouthpiece.
To adjust the ligature
Remove the ligature from the mouthpiece. If you want to make it fit more tightly push the elastic up from the bottom. You can then pull on the two protruding cords on top of the ligature and make them longer, then adjust the loops to be even once more. If you wish to make the ligature fit more loosely do the opposite.
