Buffet developed the BC20 as a precursor to the modern RC model, an attempt to make a darker more resonant instrument compared to the R13’s brighter, cutting sound. Manufactured from the 1960’s up until the 1980’s, these clarinets are still sought after today for their excellent quality and beautiful dark tone.
This clarinet with the serial number prefix “F” is tuned to to A=442, but with the right choice of mouthpiece, or simply pulling the barrel off a little, can play happily with the more usual A=440 orchestras and bands here in the UK. The wood is in superb condition for its age, just a few bumps and nicks from normal use through its life. The silver plating is clean and intact throughout. As with all second hand instruments from Dawkes it is fully checked and prepared for sale by one of our specialist woodwind technicians - and comes with a 6 month warranty.
All in all, this BC20 would make an excellent upgrade option for the advancing clarinettist. With a sensible choice of mouthpiece, this clarinet can excel in any musical scenario, but is particularly well suited for solo and chamber work, or for a Sax player wanting a high quality double without totally breaking the bank.
