This is the new Backun Signature Series ‘Hawkins’ Clarinet mouthpiece. This mouthpiece, designed by master-craftsman Richard Hawkins to his own specification, the result is a mouthpiece with an easy, clear tone with a dark roundness throughout the range.

This new Signature Series from Backun has expanded to six models, this Hawkins and others inspired by some of the best players in the business. Both feature new internal and external designs compared to the Vocalise range. They also come with rubber o-rings in place of traditional cork (3 different sizes supplied in the outfit). The Hawkins model is crafted with a unique A-Frame bore, representing the future of clarinet mouthpiece design. It has a medium facing with a medium tip opening (1.08mm). The medium facing has been optimised to work well with both synthetic and cane reeds.

This Hawkins mouthpiece is produced in a marbled slate hard rod rubber (ebonite). The manufacturing tolerances are exceptional and offer the leading quality of any clarinet mouthpiece in production. This ensures each Hawkins clarinet mouthpiece offers exactly the same response and tone. This model would suit players who prefer a medium tip opening and slightly softer reed set-up.
