This is the Backun Alpha Bass Clarinet to Low Eb with silver-plated keys. It's essentially a professional specification but in a material that students and advancing players alike can both afford and handle comfortably. The Low Eb models have been used for many years in educational environments or as the first step into Bass Clarinet ownership.
The Alpha Bass series (they also make a Low C model) leverages the same acoustical design and durable key mechanism found on the Q Series Professional Bass Clarinet range. The body however is not wood, but an incredibly lightweight and durable synthetic material. The keywork is triple-strike plated to ensure a long-lasting finish.
These Low Eb model Alpha Bass Clarinets are an excellent first option for any new Bass Clarinet player. They are durable enough to be used in a school/university setting where multiple players may use it from week to week. They would also be a good option for any advancing Bb Clarinet player wanting to experiment with the Bass Clarinet, but not wanting to leap forwards to the Low C models which are bigger and more expensive.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Dawkes who welcomed me to their Maidenhead store last week, for an afternoon of trying out the Backun Alpha low Eb Bass and also the Jupiter new model JBC-1000S. I fell in love with the Alpha as soon as I played it. A beautiful response in all registers and so easy to play. I also knew I wanted a Vocalise mouthpiece and after trying both the R & the H, the H was definitely the right one for me.
