New Selmer Muse Clarinet – Limited Edition 2025!

14th April 2025

To celebrate Henri SELMER Paris’ 140th anniversary, the beloved Bb Muse clarinet is released as the exclusive “Limited Edition 2025”. A true masterclass in craftsmanship and with only a mere 85 in production, Dawkes is thrilled to be in possession of such a rare addition to the Selmer family.

Selmer Muse Bb Clarinet specs:

Top features:

  • New conical bore of the body adds to the bright, rich tone and ease of projection throughout the registers.
  • G# and C# keys feature a raised tone hole to optimise precision and intonation.
  • New geometry of the keywork feature for ergonomic comfort and familiarity. This allows a player to quickly adapt to the instrument. The hand positioning feels more natural, minimising fatigue and strain.
  • The innovative EVOLUTION* System (a combination of wood and resin in the upper joint) provides better protection against moisture. This is to prevent cracking and therefore increased longevity to the traditional wooden clarinet, without compromising on the acoustics.

An overview of the Limited Edition Selmer Muse Clarinet:

This exciting edition presents us with this luxurious colour drenching of matte black chrome on the keys and mechanisms. The dark grenadilla wood highlights the intricate engravings of a musical score depicted from the barrel to the bell. The high level of playability and tone is upheld along with an instrument that visually packs a punch.

The pads are a mix of black leather and Valentino synthetic pads for durability. The cork used in the mechanisms has also been replaced by anthracite grey hi-tech felt. This echos the dark colourway and helps to reduce key noise when playing.

The precision engraving extends to the limited edition number (01-85 for example) marked above the thumb support. Additionally, for the first time the iconic ‘S’ logo has been carved into the grenadilla wood, with a nickel-silver inlay for an elegant finish.

What’s in the box:

As well as a sleek hard case and cover that is embossed with a subtle nod to the clarinet’s markings, you are also provided with a limited edition Echo mouthpiece. This is also engraved with the modern motif mirroring the clarinet body. Not to mention the matte black chrome ligature and cap for a perfect set up.

Selmer left no stone unturned in the production of these instruments, taking care to have even the cloth, swab and cork grease all be adorned with the beautiful line-work of the musical score. Selmer has ensured that every feature is carefully benefiting from the ‘Limited Edition’ experience.

Comments from the Workshop:

“This ultra-rare limited run of anniversary edition Muse Clarinets elevates the instrument far beyond its function as a tool of musical expression. The 140th Anniversary Selmer Muse Clarinet is a piece of art, exuding intrigue and presence.

The Muse Clarinets have very precise intonation and a big, responsive sound. The special ‘Evolution’ bore lining is stable and accurate, and protects the top joint from potential cracks.

The 4 largest leather pads on the bottom joint feature a matte-black curved-cone shape resonator, matching the design of the limited edition alto and tenor saxophones of this 2025 release. This will interact with the internal air column differently than a typical glossy, low rise resonator.

The fact that Selmer has gone to such great lengths as to stylise all the rods, screws and springs for this model is a testament to their attention to precise underlying detail throughout the manufacturing process.

It’s been exciting to handle and try out these 140th anniversary instruments in our workshop – for the lucky few owners-to-be, they will hold an exquisite celebration of Selmer history in their hands.” – Abi Taylor, Head Technician.
